About me

Photographer Robert Viglasky

I received my training at the National School of Art in Cuba where I graduated as a teacher and dancer of Modern, Contemporary and Cuban Folklore Dance in 2004. After completion of my studies I joined the national dance company “Danza Contemporánea de Cuba” where I spent three years participating as a solo/supporting dancer in the company’s repertoire. During this time I had the opportunity to improve my skills and abilities as a dancer but also to collaborate with international choreographers such us Cathy Marston, Yans Linkens, Mats Ek, Ana Laguna and Rafael Bonachela.

While I was at Danza Contemporánea, I was chosen to participate as a dancer in the recording of the Simply Red concert Cuba! performed in La Havana, which was released in the UK in DVD format in 2006.

Over the last couple of years I have shared my duties as a dancer with my teaching commitments at the National School of Ballet and Entertainment in Cuba where I am a member of the examination panel since April 2007. I participated in a cultural exchange with the Oxford-based company Gelede Dance which provided an excellent opportunity to meet dancers and choreographers in the United Kingdom during winter 2008. From autumn 2009 until spring 2010 I collaborated with the physical theatre company Point Zero also based in Oxford.

I recently joined the Cuban dance company Havana Rakatan and I am currently on tour with them.
